The history of Sounder Goods and the creation of The Original Leather Sunglass Strap
Inspiration struck our founder Chris on a trip to Nantucket for the infamous Figawi sailing weekend. While juggling beverages and sunglasses as the grey lady rolled on and off the island, the convenience of a good retainer became apparent. Fate wouldn’t be so simple, however, as he found himself desiring something a bit different. A sunglass strap of equal parts functionality and style. A rugged, refined alternative to the varieties available.
Back on the mainland his journey began. Over many late nights and weekends in the leather shop the world’s first leather sunglass strap was developed. Originally made for friends and family, and later sold to our first customer; the self pro-claimed ‘King of Figawi’ a year later at the island’s Gazebo bar. Now patented, and affectionately know as “Sounders”, our original brass rivet and full grain leather straps are a symbol of sport and leisure all over the world.
